The ANC Brief: The murder of Kian and the war on drugs

[ad_1]

President Duterte is scheduled to appear in Caloocan for the celebration of Bonifacio Day, just a day after a city court has pronounced the first conviction of police officers involved in extrajudicial executions under the Duterte administration. Here are the stories that ANC will cover today:

Justice for Kian

Justice Sec. Menardo Guevarra said that the condemnation of Kian's assassins demystified the myth of impunity in the war on drugs. PNP Dir. General Oscar Albayalde said it was a reminder to the police. Interior and Local Government Sec. Eduardo Ano said it was a warning to the cops. While Kian's murderers are in prison, where is the war on drugs going? Vice President Leni Robredo is seeking an investigation into other drug-related murders after the conviction. PNP spokesman, Chief Superintendent Benigno Durana will be part of the first edition of the ANC to explain where the PNP goes after the first conviction in the drug war led by the Duterte administrations.

For the great plebeian

The president is scheduled to attend the Bonifacio holiday festivities in Caloocan at 3:30 pm. ANC will be ready to broadcast the debates live. There will also be events throughout the day.

Resume a recommendation

The economic team will resume its recommendation to end the second round of fuel tax increases next year. What will be the impact on oil companies, tariffs and commodity prices? And what about the political implications of the move while local elections are scheduled next year? Will this affect the chances of candidates for administration? Budget and Management Sec. Ben Diokno will be one of the pioneers of the ANC to talk about the restored budget and the rise in the tax on gasoline.

Form of harassment?

The former representative of Bayan Muna, Satur Ocampo, and about 70 other people will face charges of kidnapping, child abuse and child trafficking. The Ocampo group was arrested Thursday in Talaingod, Davao del Norte, with 14 miners allegedly rescued during a humanitarian mission. Their supporters said that the arrest was illegal and was a form of harassment. The arrest comes as the government and communist rebels fight for peace talks to begin between the two sides.

Victims of crimes

ANC will provide updates on the investigation into the murder of businessman Dominic Sytin in Subic. A clear motive and the suspects have yet to be identified. Thursday night, the SWS published a poll revealing that 1.4 million Filipinos were victims of common law crimes.
