MANILA, Philippines – An opposition has been filed before the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) to disqualify one of its members who aspires to be a associate judge of the Tax Court of Appeal. (CTA).
Lawyer Larry Gadon, a candidate in the upcoming parliamentary elections, opposes Mr Atty's candidacy. Ma. Milagros Cayosa to join the CTA.
Cayosa, a current member of the JBC representing the Integrated Bar Association of the Philippines (IBP), apparently lacks "demonstrated competence, integrity, probity and independence", which are essential qualifications for the position of judge. CTA.
Gadon accused Cayosa of having testified falsely in front of Congress when she asserted that Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno had complied with the requirement regarding the state of the art. Assets, liabilities and net worth when he applied for the position of Chief Justice in 2012.
Gadon also stated that Cayosa has no experience as a trial judge.
He added that there is also a conflict of interest because it is part of the JBC that will deliberate on his candidacy.
