ZAMBOANGA CITY – A worker died Tuesday morning while he was trying to repair a lift cable line in one of the city's shopping centers.

Chief Inspector. Elmer Solon, head of Zamboanga City Police Station 11, identified the death as Guillermo Barason Escapre, 38, from Barangay Mampang, the town.

Solon said Escapre's body had been cut in half because of the weight of the elevator that had fallen on him.

"The victim was cutting the cable line from the elevator without noticing the weight of the elevator balancer of an estimated weight of 500 kg. The elevator balancer was still attached and still above the position of the victim. This one was cut off and fell on the victim who caused the amputation of the body, "Solon said.

The incident occurred around 10 am inside the mall lift cage, along La Purisima street.

The mall was closed because it was under construction. Escapre was employed by a junk store to perform disassembly operations inside the mall.

Solon said that an investigation was underway to determine whether there had been a criminal act.

The Escapre family was informed of the incident.
