SAN FRANCISCO, USA – Apple confirmed Friday (March 29th) that it would not keep its promise to help the wireless future with an AirPower mat for charging its devices.
The project announced late 2017 has turned out to be a technical challenge, told Agence France-Presse Dan Riccio, vice president of hardware engineering at Apple.
"After many efforts, we concluded that AirPower would not reach our high standards and we canceled the project," Riccio said.
"We continue to believe that the future is wireless and we are determined to advance the wireless experience."
He apologized to Apple fans who were eagerly waiting for the AirPower.
AirPower was announced at the same time as the iPhone X, a high-end model marking the 10th anniversary of the company's flagship smartphone.
It was announced as part of a transition to mobile lifestyles less cluttered with cables, and the images from the unveiling of the project showed AirPower as a go-anywhere for the phone, smart watch, and media support. Apple's AirPod earphones could be assembled to be charged without being plugged.
Although Apple has already delayed the release of products such as its AirPod earbuds and a HomePod smart speaker, it is not without knowledge that we must omit to propose innovations touted during events.
Other companies sell charging stations or pads that can be used to power wireless iPhones or other devices compatible with the technology, which is based on an industry standard.
The broken material promise comes as Apple focuses more on digital content and services to free itself from its reliance on iPhone sales.
