MANILA, Philippines – Blackwater missed an opportunity to boast of benefiting a win-win incentive in the 2018 PBA Governors' Cup playoffs and to import Henry Walker's not amused.
US reinforcements were disappointed after the elite lost a 91-97 loss to Phoenix on Sunday, Nov. 4, in their last playoff game, leaving the team fifth in the playoff standings.
That means Blackwater, who dropped to 7-4, must win two wins over the No. 4 Magnolia in their quarterfinal clash to qualify for the Final Four.
A win against the Fuel Masters, however, would have placed them fourth and would give them a double advantage in the playoffs.
"We lost 4 months of work and 4 months of preparation, we wasted a big conference to get to the end," Walker told reporters after the match.
"We spent all the time being in the Top 4 and came here today without bringing the energy we need on the defense side.We are not as physical on the side of the defense . "
"It was right in front of us, we had to do self-checks and instinctive checks."
Blackwater led 48-44 at half-time before seeing Phoenix take the lead before scoring LA Revilla's triple-goal defender LA Revilla, who stole 72-69.
The Fuel Masters never gave way to the fourth quarter (up to 9 points) while the attempt to return the last elite was a failure.
"We just made some bad decisions," Walker said. "In the 4th quarter, you can not have that if you want to be a championship team, especially in the PBA."
