Buboy prepares Pacquiao against Broner
Coach Buboy Fernandez said Manny Pacquiao should be wary of Adrien Broner's punches when he faces the American pug on January 19th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada.
"Broner is a counter-puncher unlike (Lucas) Matthysse who prefers to rush. Broner chooses to wait for his opponent to throw a punch, then against. I think Manny would be able to hit him early but I'm not sure he can knock him out, "Fernandez told reporters in the Philippines after Pacquiao's training at the Elorde gym near the Mall of Asia in Pasay City.
Pacquiao defeated Matthysse in July in a seventh-round technical elimination in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to win the World Boxing Association welterweight title.
This is Pacquiao's first knockout victory since sending Puerto Rican Miguel Cotto to the technical round of 16 in 2009.
"We are studying the move of Broner and we can say that it moves a lot," added Fernandez.
"You would be surprised to see Pacquiao's physical prowess at 40. He remains in impeccable condition even when he is not fighting, and in July he continues to play basketball as a form of conditioning. I'm not surprised he's back to fitness in just two weeks. "
Fernandez announced that they would leave on Dec. 22 to spend Christmas and New Year in the United States. It would also help Pacquiao to acclimate to the cold.
"We will start fighting in two weeks," said Fernandez, adding that Australian George Kambosos would return as one of Pacquiao 's training partners.
"We need the speed and defensive play of Kombosos. The fights will take place next week and we are aiming for 30 to 90 rounds. "
Fernandez also commented on Freddie Roach's return to the Pacquiao team.
"We do not have a problem with that because it's Manny's decision, but we should coordinate and work as a team. The important thing is to bring the crown home. "
