CCTV cameras surprise the culprit who placed the bomb – and the explosion that followed – just in front of the Carlitos Chicken restaurant in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat
MANILA, Philippines – The culprit of the bomb attack on the restaurant Carlitos Chicken in Isulan, Sultan Kudarat, making at least 18 wounded, was recorded by CCTV cameras while he was placing the bomb at inside the restaurant. The explosion was also captured.
Based on images shared by the police, the suicide bomber wore a hat, a filtering face mask, a loose buttoned shirt, jeans and slippers. He carried a blue plastic bag with his left hand and a white plastic bag with his right hand, containing unidentified objects inside.
He entered at about 13:52, dragging himself as he was heading towards Carlitos, very busy at the time.
He was able to sit by the windows of the restaurant and sat alone at the end of a long white table. At 13:54, he got up and went to the comfort room of the restaurant.
According to Soccsksargen police chief Brigadier General Eliseo Rasco, the culprit would have only "claimed" to go to the bathroom. He also did not order food at all, but only a few chatter with people inside.
At 13:55, he returned to his place and then left a minute later. The images shared by the police show that he only carried the blue plastic bag when he came out.
Rasco stated that the improvised explosive device (IED) was inside the white plastic bag.
A restaurant waiter was attentive and saw the plastic bag left by the kamikaze, who followed him to return it around 13h57.
At 1358, the bomber slid the white plastic bag between the compressor space of an air conditioner and the restaurant wall. About an hour later, at 15:04, the bomb exploded, covering a peaceful scene in smoke that it already revealed in a carnage seconds later.
Rasco said it was good that the suicide bomber had left the IED by the wall, as opposed to inside the restaurant, because the explosion was "under control". (READ: PNP: Extortion is a "probable motive" behind Sultan Kudarat's explosion)
"Kung Naiwan's yun his loob, injured and injured (If the white bag had been left inside, the number of victims would have been higher), "Rasco said.
Of the 18 wounded, the youngest was 7 years old and the oldest, 41 years old. They all seem already in a stable state, Rasco said.
The cops are now looking for more CCTV videos and testimonials based on the bomber's exit point.
