MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte has signed a law establishing the National Commission for Older Persons (NCSC) to provide services and activities for the elderly.
Duterte signed the Republic Act No. 11350 on July 25th. A copy of the law was made public Friday.
The new law also abolished the National Coordination and Oversight Council, established under the Enlarged Act on Older Persons of 2010.
Under the law, the commission would consist of a president and six commissioners from different regions appointed by the president.
The CNSC will appoint an Executive Director who will be responsible for implementing the policies, regulations and guidelines of the organization.
The law has transferred "all functions, programs, projects and activities" from the Department of Social Welfare and Development "for poor, vulnerable and disadvantaged older people" to NCSC.
One of the functions of the Commission is "to establish and maintain cooperation and consultation with local governments and national government agencies on all matters relating to the general welfare of the elderly", "to develop policies for the promotion and protection of rights and fundamental freedoms. be seniors, "" ensure the full implementation of government laws, policies and programs regarding seniors.
