France is the champion of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Final, beating Croatia by 4-2.

France entered the tournament as a favorite thanks to such stars as Kylian Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann. a longhot for the victory.

"We are world champions and France will be at the top of the world for the next four years," said French coach Didier Deschamps after the match. He called the tournament a "beautiful celebration of football".

The victory sparked celebrations all over France, with jubilant fans waving French fans and cheers. Here is the moment when France won the game, captured by FRANCE 24 :

It is possible that nobody is more excited than the French president Emmanuel Macron. Indy Football caught this image of him celebrating at the stadium during the game:

By some measures, Croatia dominated the match. He has held the ball for more than 60% of it. He had better passing accuracy than France and was almost double the goal attempts that France.

Still, France's attack came at key moments, and their four goals secured their World Cup title.

At 18 minutes, Croatia received its first major stroke. Croatian striker Mario Mandzukic mistakenly scored a goal for France by scoring it for the goal of his team. As noted by the official FIFA official blog, Mandzukic now has "the misfortune of being the first player to score a goal against his side in the World Cup final".

Shortly after, Croatian Ivan Perisic scored the goal. Then, the referees gave France a penalty shot for a handball of Perisic, giving France a valuable opportunity.

It is the occasion that the Frenchman Antoine Griezmann knew how to draw from a goal and raise the score to 2-1 at halftime.

The handball penalty was awarded after a review of Video Assistant Referees. As NPR has reported, this tournament is the first time FIFA has "allowed the video to be used to make penalties at a World Cup". According to CBS Soccer, Griezmann's penalty kick was VAR's first assisted score in a World Cup final.

Frenchman Paul Pogba scored in the 59th minute, quickly followed by another goal from France six minutes later, this time from Mbappe. This goal was also historic. He made Mbappe, 19, the first teenager to score in a World Cup final since Pele, the legend of Brazilian football.

(Pele later congratulated Mbappe in a Tweet saying, "If Kylian continues to match my records like that, I may have to dust off my boots …"

Mandzukic Croatian then scored, bringing the score to 4-2, thanks to a mistake by France.

"It's a day of firsts for Croatia: the first time in a World Cup final, the first team to qualify for the final after winning three consecutive overtime games." He added that "if France can survive the Croats, it will mean a second championship and the first since 1998".
