Full-strength San Miguel dumps ROS in Biñan to sustain streak

BIÑAN – San Miguel sustained its top form and hardly needed June Mar Fajardo to do so as the Beermen beat Rain or Shine, 109-97, on Saturday to extend their winning streak to four games in the PBA Governors’ Cup.

The Beermen separated themselves from the Elasto Painters in the third quarter to pick up another win, their sixth in 10 outings to still remain a game behind third-placers Alaska, Phoenix, and Blackwater.

San Miguel won in the first game of Fajardo this conference after recovering from a stress fracture in his right shin. In his much-anticipated return, Fajardo played for only 10 minutes and finished with two points.

His presence though became a footnote as the Beermen continued their solid play that kept them in the race for the quarterfinal berth during Fajardo’s absence.

Kevin Murphy had 28 points, while Alex Cabagnot and Christian Standhardinger led the third-quarter pullaway by the Beermen and finished with 24 and 22 points respectively to keep their streak going.

Standhardinger also had 17 rebounds in the win as the Elastopainters suffered their fourth straight loss to go 2-8.
