SUBIC BAY FREEPORT – A prominent businessman was shot dead by a gunman alone on Wednesday night, prompting authorities to order confinement in Subic Freeport to eliminate the murderer.
However, the masked assassin who fired four bullets into the chief executive of United Auctioneers Inc. (UAI), Dominic Sytin, has so far escaped a police attack launched on the Freeport harbor and neighboring communities.
Police investigators said Sytin and his bodyguard, Efren Espartero, were about to enter the Lighthouse Marina Resort Hotel, in Subic's central business district, around 7:30 pm. On November 28, an unidentified suspect fired point-blank at Sytin, in the back and on the left side of the head.
Espartero tried to retaliate, but the assailant also turned against him, beating his right arm and right torso.
A video surveillance footage filmed in front of the hotel reportedly showed only one assailant firing a last shot at Sytin's already exposed body.
Witnesses nearby then remembered hearing several more shots that threatened them with fear.
Police said Sytin had died on the spot, his body crumpled under the hotel 's staircase when the investigators arrived. Esparto was taken to Baypointe Hospital and the medical center two blocks away, where doctors said he was stable.
