MANILA, Philippines – After her conviction for corruption, Ilocos Norte District II representative Imelda Marcos withdrew her candidacy for Ilocos Norte as governor.
Imelda's chief of staff, Bebot Diaz, confirmed this on Thursday, November 29, at the deadline set by the Elections Commission (Comelec) for replacement candidates.
Imelda's grandson, Matthew Marcos Manotoc, a member of the 2nd District 2nd District Board of Directors, will run for governor. Manotoc, the son of the governor of Ilocos Norte and a senatorial aspirant, Imee Marcos, initially applied for vice-governance.
According to Diaz, Mariano "Nonong", a member of the board of directors, replaced Manotoc with Manotoc for the post of vice-governor.
Nonong Marcos is the son of Pacifico, the younger brother of Imelda's husband and the overthrown dictator Ferdinand Marcos.
Manotoc announced in a Facebook message at 7 pm that he would replace his grandmother by running for the governorship.
