The official tickets above are in accordance with the information given by the three candidates. The only surprise is the high number of federations offering Makrop's ticket oulos, knowing that each ticket requires only a minimum of five support federations.
It is important to note that the appointments say nothing about the final results; Only the actual vote of 3 October in Batumi will determine the winner. So, what does it mean that Makro presented his ticket with 64 support federations?
He shows above all the excellent relations that he has with a large number of federations, accumulated over a long period of time. Traditionally, the current leadership of FIDE – formerly led by Kirsan Ilyumzhinov – has received considerable support from the Americas, where Makropoulos' accomplice Jorge Vega is the continental president.
Silvio Danailov former president of the Bulgarian Chess Federation and known opponent of Makropoulos, has his own explanation: Makro wanted to show his muscles
FIDE currently has 189 member federations. Even if all the aforementioned federations stick to their nominations (which is not certain at all), there is still a lot of voices to defend.
The three candidates still have three months to campaign. Without taking a stand in the current election, Chess.com can only support Short's suggestion of a public debate among the three, somewhere in the coming months.
