Manny resumes killer movements

Manny Pacquiao has rediscovered The Killer Formula that has turned it into a global boxing icon and seems more determined than ever to win a resounding victory over WBA welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse of Argentina at the Kuala Lumpur Axiata Arena on July 15th.

While he was training for Matthysse at General Santos City, Pacquiao is making every effort to prepare for what turns out to be a decisive fight in his career. Pacquiao, 39, does not intend to retire in the near future, but a loss for Matthysse will no doubt make him reconsider. If Pacquiao wins convincingly, hell will return to the throne and big cash fights against Vasyl Lomachenko and Floyd Mayweather, Jr. in a possible revenge could be around the corner.

Pacquiao knows what is at stake and that is why he is really serious in preparing Matthysse. Manny has found some of the old movements of yesteryear and has probably asked the same questions when he's pushed to its limits, said Winchell Campos, director of media for MP promotions. Did I see him as hungry for a win and will he make a knockout as he worked in the gym? No, I've never seen Manny hungry for a long time and yes, he's trying to make a knockout.

Even though there are effects of slowing down of age or wear, Campos says that he is not worried. Mannys mental ensemble and the experience of the ring are the compensating factors, he said. Campos noted that Pacquiao is surrounded by four sparring partners who are known to be long-lasting survivors.

Sparmates are unbeaten, light Australians George Kambosos, 25, Ceher light welterweight Jheritz Chavez, 27, Bohol super-weight Arnel Tinampay, 34 and Bohol light welter Ricky Sismundo, 31. Kambosos, Chavez and Tinampay have never lost in the interior. arrested in four of the 11 losses. They're averaging 30.5 fights, 29.25 years, 9.75 years as a pro, 6.75 KOs, 19.75 wins, 8.75 losses and their 35 total losses, only four were per stop.

Last Saturday, Pacquiao went 12 rounds of sparring, including four with Tinampay, Chavez and Kambosos in that order. Sismundo sparred with sparingly. Chavez, who was floored in a session last week, is 8-3-2 with 6 KOs. His three defeats were in points, twice in Tokyo and once in Moscow. The Tinampays record of 24-21-1, with 10 KOs, may not seem impressive, but what is remarkable is that all its setbacks have been decided, including five majorities and one division. Tinampay has fought in Australia, Korea, Thailand, Japan, Singapore, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan in a career that began in 2003.

Sismundo has played in Russia, Canada, the United States, Japan, Mexico, Australia, Thailand and Indonesia since he's become a professional in 2006. His record is 33-11. -3, with 15 KOs. Kambosos has a 14-0 record, with 8 knockouts, and will face Oriental J. Mindoros R. Magboo in an eight-round bout in the undercard of Kuala Lumpur.

Matthysse, 35, is 5-6 1/2. The sparmates of Pacquiaos are around this height with Chavez and Tinampay at 5-7, Sismundo at 5-5 and Kambosos 5-9 1/2. Coaches Buboy Fernandez and Justin Fortune focus on Pacquiaos' sparring marksmanship. Fortune calls it target practice. Matthysse, who is slow, will be a clear target for Pacquiao. What makes Matthysse dangerous is his power since he scored 36 knockouts in 39 wins, a 92 percent rate.
