Masayuki Ito won a vacant junior title in Saturday night lightweights with a 12-round unanimous decision against undefeated Christopher Diaz until then, in a magnificent battle that featured a bristly action at every turn.
The fight was the main event rank on the ESPN map at the Kissimmee Civic Center in Kissimmee, Florida
Ito, 27, from Tokyo, who had his first fight outside of Japan , took control in the first round. He was going out in Diaz boxing, landing on the left, hard shots and straight hands to the head. It was a model that was repeated throughout the fight.
At the beginning of the fourth round, Diaz's left eye was beginning to swell as Ito's right slammed again and again. A trio of hunting rights dropped Diaz halfway through the turn, but he beat the count and fought back.
Diaz, 23, a native of Barranquitas, Puerto Rico, has rallied to the fifth, injuring Ito with a left hook on the body. He also won a good start at the start of round six, but Ito was back at the end of the round.
In the seventh, Ito (24-1-1, 12 KOs) unveiled an unusual combination with a straight right. in the head, followed by uppercut right to the chin that Diaz could not avoid.
Diaz (23-1, 15 KOs) was still dangerous and sometimes hit hard, but his left eye was almost completely closed in the eighth round, Ito continued to connect with the rights to the damaged area.
Diaz rebounded in the 10th round, swinging Ito with a nasty jaw kick, but he could not knock the Japanese boxer down. The crowd favorite had another productive round in the 11th, beating his opponent with a left hook, but Ito closed well in the final round, knocking over Diaz with a combination to the head.

Unanimous votes in favor of Ito were 116-111, 117-110 and 118-109. When asked how he felt to win the title, he replied: "Amazing, in my mind I was not scoring, I just kept going for the knockout."
In the main bout, Gabriel Bracero (25-3 -1, 6 KOs) eliminated Artemio Reyes (25-3, 20 KOs) at 2:43 mark of the fifth round of a weight fight midfielder expected 10 rounds.
Bracero of Brooklyn, who took the fight on 10 days "notice, favored Reyes with a clever mix of movement and counterweight. He repeatedly beat his biggest opponent at the punch and gradually accelerated his attack with every turn.
Reyes, 31, of Colton, Calif., Followed Bracero into the ring, missing most of his shots. He looked completely bewildered by Bracero's typing and movement style and had never really been hunted down.
In the fifth round, Bracero knocked Reyes virtually at will. He finished the fight with a crippling left hook on the body and a right on the chin. Reyes turned away and fell on one knee, an expression of agony on his face. He was unable to get up and referee Emile Lombardi counted him.
