Huawei Mate X debuted at the opening speech of the Chinese OEM's Mobile World Congress (MWC), which was attended by Express.co.uk.

The Mate X is the company's foldable phone and was revealed just days after Samsung fully introduced the Galaxy Fold, which is just as flexible.

The Huawei Mate X comes with a single screen that folds back on the device, in contrast to the Samsung offering that folds back on itself.

Unfolded, Mate X comes with an 8-inch display offering a unique 8: 7.1 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2480×2200.

Folded, the handset comes with a 6.6-inch screen at the front that features the best-known 19.5: 9 picture format and a resolution of 2480×1148.

However, at the back, the hardware features a 6.38-inch display offering a 25: 9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2480×892.

Huawei throws the rear window as if it were operated when the user wants to take a selfie.

Indeed, once folded, the side panel of the Mate X which houses its system with three cameras is turned towards the user.

The Chinese manufacturer said the Mate X would make selfies with commendable quality because it does not need to use a dedicated sensor.

All the futuristic technology contained in the Mate X means that it is accompanied by an exorbitant price.

The flagship foldable product costs € 2,299, which equates to £ 1,972.63 at the time of writing.

In contrast, the Galaxy Fold will cost $ 1,980 (£ 1,493.32)

However, the CEO of Huawei Technologies Consumer Business Group believes that the additional cost of Mate X is worth it to be paid compared to the Galaxy Fold.

Following the announcement of the flexible product from the Chinese manufacturer, Richard Yu organized a media interview with Express.co.uk.

During the event, the CEO said that the Mate X was "definitely" the sum added because it is a "much better product".

He said: "I think it's really worth it (the extra cost), you know it's a much better product.

"Huawei, why are we doing such an innovative product? Because we want to do our best.

"We want to be the driving force and the leader of innovation in the industry."

Yu also insisted that the Galaxy Fold was "much thicker" than Huawei's, which added to its appeal.

The CEO also wanted to explain that Huawei had experimented with "many types of foldable styles" before choosing the type used with the Mate X.

Richard Yu said that the technology giant "had designed all the possibilities" of a foldable phone, even the method employed by Galaxy Fold.

However, he was eager to note that the firm had decided not to use such a drawing because it was "too thick", "terrible" and "garbage-free".

Mr. Yu continued, "To be honest, we have all studied different types of foldable styles.

"That's the other solution we have, like the Samsung, we already have it, but it's not good, we stopped it to launch it (Mate X).

"We also have other types of foldable phones, to be honest, we've designed all the possibilities, but it's too thick, that (Galaxy Fold) looks like two phones together.

"So it's terrible, it's zero, we can not, so we tried different models in order to finally choose the best."

Yu also noted that the Mate X does not have a notch, whether folded or unfolded.

In contrast, the Galaxy Fold has a notch on its main screen and very wide frames on its cover panel.

The CEO said, "We are doing the best, there is no punch or cut, no cutting at all."

"It's so thin, so light and so long, which is great.

"Because if we make the product big and bulky, no one will want to use it, it's too heavy in my pocket. This is not good."

Unlike the Galaxy Fold, whose final release date is April 26 this year, Huawei has not provided a specific schedule for the launch of Mate X.

Instead, the company simply insisted that the flexible flagship product would be available by the middle of this year.
