Max Holloway swears to fight at UFC 231 and does not care if it's Brian Ortega, Renato Moicano or anyone else standing in front of the octagon.
Holloway (19-3 MMA, 15-3 UFC) participates in the UFC 231 event of the following month, after the most turbulent year of his career. Three fights were canceled for a variety of reasons, ranging from an injury to UFC 222 in March to a weight loss at UFC 223 in April to a confused diagnosis that remains unclear at UFC 226 in July.
The UFC featherweight champion, however, returns to defend the title against Ortega (14-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) at UFC 231, and said he did not care about the past and was focused on the future.
"This last fight was an incredible madness," Holloway told MMAjunkie on Wednesday. "It's just crazy what happened. I feel good. I can not wait to do it. This last fight was only crazy circumstances. (Expletive) is coming, so I can not wait. "
UFC 231 will take place on December 8 at the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto. Holloway vs Ortega presents the main pay-per-view card after the preliminary matches of FS1 and UFC Fight Pass.
Holloway, No. 1 in the latest MMA featherweight rankings in the US TODAY Sports / MMAjunkie. and defend his title against No. 2 Ortega.
It was an unwelcome career failure, but Holloway said he intended to pick up where he left off, making him one of the most successful fighters in the sport and currently leading a series of 12 victories.
"Why repair something that is not broken?" Holloway said. "Ortega is doing something very good. I am a fighter. I fight every time. I fight against anyone. You must be ready to go if you are the best in the world and I believe that I am the best in the world. The training went well and is ready to put forward all that has been said about a new era – it is still the blessed era "that has its full effect".
Since Holloway recently failed in the octagon, the UFC has named No. 6 featherweight contender Moicano (13-1-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) as an auxiliary fighter in UFC 231. weight for the card and be ready to step in if any of the current poster heads is unable to compete.
Moicano made a statement to MMAjunkie, jokingly saying to the champion that he would be ready to replace him if he wanted to stay away from the cold of Toronto and return to Hawaii, where it is much hotter. Holloway found it humorous.
"Thank you Moicano for this offer, but I'll see it sooner or later," Holloway said. "Just be ready for anything. Thank you for the offer. He's a great guy, a cool guy, a great guy. It's very funny. I can not wait to see this guy too, one day. "
If something bad happens to Ortega, however, Holloway said he would be willing to shift gears and defend his belt against Moicano.
"I would take it with three hours' notice," Holloway said. "I'll take you an hour in advance. I'm mad. Everyone was like, "The fight Khabib (Nurmagomedov), you're crazy to take this to last week". Look, they take the fight with me. You argue with me. I do not care who it is. Anyone. They have to remember who they are fighting and who they are fighting for, and it's me. "
Currently, however, Holloway is focusing on Ortega and what he needs to do to extend his winning streak to 13. Holloway thinks some may have forgotten what he's capable of during his absence, but is considering changing this with a new stellar performance.
"I will go out there and do what I do best," Holloway said. "I'm going to open the door for you and every time you're ready, grab your hand and guide you through. Thank you, come back to us. People continue to say that this will be one of my toughest fights. I will go there and make sure that people like, "What was it?", That's my game plan. "
