PBA: TNT deplores lost setback in defeat against Ginebra

MANILA, Philippines – TNT KaTropa has had plenty of opportunities to resume the Philippines Cup match of the PBA against Barangay Ginebra on Sunday night at the Philippine Arena.

The KaTropa had already pioneered an 18-point lead in the first half and had managed to make it into a possession game several times in the third quarter.

Unfortunately for TNT, they simply have not managed to overcome their delay. Many of their players missed deep passes, from Roger Pogoy to Don Trollano to Harvey Carey, which could have matched the mark.

Instead, Ginebra ended the third quarter with a 6-0 strike, just enough to comfort his lead and give him the momentum to break the game in the final period. The Gin Kings fled with a 90-79 win.

"(We were) pretty good for three quarters, then I thought that they were wearing us out a bit," TNT consultant Mark Dickel said after the match, which saw the KaTropa shoot at only 32% of the land.

"In the end, in this game, we had to make more shots if we wanted to have a chance to really trouble them, we had an opportunity in the third quarter where we had stops, and we had everything simply did not make the looks we had, "he noted.

TNT lost just two points, 59-57, with 3:54 remaining in the third, but in their following possession, Jayson Castro and Harvey Carey shunned closely, and Pogoy also missed a goal. in check.

Pogoy and Ryan Reyes have also failed to find the mark beyond the bow.

"When you play a good team like that, they charge you for it," Dickel said.

To make matters worse for TNT, they did not get an answer at the other end because the huge front line of the Gin Kings overwhelmed them.

Dickel acknowledged that Ginebra's great men had had an impact on their shot in the paint, especially Japeth Aguilar, who had won earlier in the night a selection of the first mythical team at the Leo Awards.

"They're big and Japeth is a monster over there and he blocks the shots," Dickel remarked.

"Sometimes what seems like easy shooting is not, and when we had easy shots we missed them too, and when we had open shots we missed them as well," he said. he adds.

But Dickel is confident that these shots will soon begin to fall for the KaTropa.

"We have guys who are able to hit those shots, so you can not stop too long to miss those shots, you have to hope that the next game will be played," he said.

It did not help either that TNT plays without a key member of his rotation, Troy Rosario having a broken nose that will keep him out of action until February. This forced DTT coaching staff to set up a small squad that featured Trollano as a future striker.

Trollano did a respectable job and finished with 15 points, but Dickel said he had "exhausted a bit" by overseeing his biggest counterparts at Ginebra.

He is confident that TNT will progress as the conference progresses.

"We have other good players and, in the end, they have to do their job, otherwise we will have problems," he said.

"Let's hope we can play a little better in the next few months and we can (Trollano) a little more comfortable, and our attack will be a bit smoother," he said.
