With an improved format, the Philippine Collegiate Champions League has launched its search for the country's only real country in college basketball.

The winner between the UAAP and the NCAA will face off in a best-of-three series while regional champions Luzon-NCR and Visayas Mindanao will meet in the other group to determine who will get the places in the final.

The PCCL, now supported by the Philippine Sports Commission, launched Tuesday the new tournament called President's Cup, at a press conference.

The qualifying matches have already started in Visayas, north / center of Luzon, south of Luzon / Bicol and in the NCR, while matches for the hopefuls of Mindanao are scheduled this weekend in Davao.

They will be opposed to other matches, as well as the winner of the Cebu Cesafi, at the regional championships which will take place in a single round.

Letran has progressed to the Luzon-NCR regional regions where he will face Don Honorio Ventura Technical University of the North / Luzon Center and winner of the Luçon Sud / Bicol stage.

Meanwhile, Colegio de Sta. Ana de Victorias will represent the region of Visayas in the Visayas-Mindanao region, where she will face the University of Visayas, champion of Cesafi, and the winner of the round of Mindanao.

The regional finals matches up to the off-one championship round, which is tentatively scheduled for the third week of January, will be televised on ESPN5.

The provincial teams hope to have the opportunity to end the dominance of the UAAP and NCAA teams, from which all the champions of the tournament have come since its debut in 2003.
