MANILA, Philippines – Reynel Hugnatan has been 40 years of the most emphatic after delivering one of his best games in the 2018 PBA Governors' Cup to help Meralco stay in the playoff race.

Hugnatan scored 19 points on 6 rebounds and 6 assists while the Bolts surprised San Miguel, 111-81, Saturday, Saturday, Nov. 3.

The 15-year-old shot 13 in the fourth quarter only to catapult Meralco for a fourth consecutive victory and a fifth overall in 11 games, which assured the team at least one playoff game for the final quarter-final.

It was an impressive show for a person who was only the third active player in the PBA to reach the age of 40. Coach Norman Black found the old form of Hugnatan when playing in the Metropolitan Basketball Association (MBA).

"He turned 40 today but he did not play like that in this game," Black told reporters after the victory.

"He played as a young man, as he was returning from the MBA and his shots in the fourth quarter helped us a lot," he added. He also mentioned Hugnatan, who played for the Negros Slashers from 1998 to 2002.

For Hugnatan, who is behind Asi Taulava (45) of NLEX and Rafi Reavis (41) of Magnolia in the list of the oldest players in the league, it is essential to maintain a healthy lifestyle to continue to perform at a high level.

"Talagang can also be considered a question. More about ako vegetables and salad. Maganda Naman & yung result," he said.

(I'm strict with what I eat, I'm more about vegetables and salad, the results were excellent.)

"[I] try my best na maging healthy lang. At least kung kaya pa, kung yung teams gusto pa nila ako, if ready ako. "

(I do my best to stay healthy, as long as I can play and the teams always want me, I'm always ready)

The Bolts (5-6) await the outcome of the match between TNT (4-6) and Barangay Ginebra (8-2) Sunday at the Araneta Coliseum to determine the fate of their playoffs.

If KaTropa wins, they will force Meralco and NLEX to tie three, and the latter will get 7th place with a higher quotient. The Bolts and TNT will then compete for the last places for the quarter-finals.

If TNT loses, it will miss the quarterfinals and give Meralco 7th place and NLEX the last place of the next round. – Rappler.com
