"It was important to win without conceding a goal and to take the advantage of six points over Napoli, who has an excellent championship."

In the third defeat of the campaign, AC Milan was eliminated from the Champions League behind Lazio, who found the 4th place despite a 1-1 draw in Sassuolo.

Argentina missed a penalty following an attack by Medhi Benatia 5 minutes before the break, Wojciech Szczesny, the goalkeeper of Juventus, tipped the ball to the post.

Ronaldo tested Gianluigi Donnarumma in AC Milan early in the second half, before scoring nine minutes from time to score his first goal at San Siro.

A few minutes later, Higuain saw red after screaming at the frustrated referee after a foul on Benatia, and was pulled off the field in tears.

"I told him not to overdo it, to calm down and not risk a major penalty," Ronaldo said of what he had said to Higuain in the field.

"He was nervous, he was losing, but do not blame him, he did not say anything."
