Once the dust settles after the PBA rookie draft in 2018, several exchanges have been discussed between different teams that will change their lineup before the next season, which begins January 13.
After failing to defend the title of commissioner and having been eliminated in the quarterfinals of the governors' cup, the San Miguel Beermen reorganized to prepare for their next five-round bid in the Philippine Cup. And they did it without separating from their main actors of rotation.
The biggest move by the Beermen was the negotiation for Terrence Romeo TNT KaTropa, an agreement that became official Wednesday. In exchange, SMB dropped David Semerad, who will join his twin brother Anthony Brian Heruela and their first-round pick in 2021.
Romeo played nine matches with KaTropa at the conference, averaging 21.4 points, 3.4 rebounds and 5.2 assists. However, team sources said he had not shown up for training for an extended period without asking for permission, which led TNT to decide to separate from the star.
Romeo will join a veteran guard unit composed of Alex Cabagnot and Chris Ross. He will also have the opportunity to play alongside June Mar Fajardo and Christian Standhardinger, who were his teammates in the Gilas Pilipinas program.
The Beermen continued to do things and recovered Ronald Tubid from the Colombian Dyip for Keith Agovida, rarely used. The formation also strengthened his bench by acquiring Paul Zamar in exchange for SMB second round picks in 2021 and 2022. This transaction brought the young guard together with his father, Boycie Zamar, assistant coach of San Miguel.
All of these trades were approved by the league through the PBA's Business Affairs Committee, consisting of PBA's legal advisor, Melvin Mendoza, members of the technical team, Junior Bengua and Rosc Teotico , and the technical director, Eric Castro.
In addition to these agreements, there are still some pending applications for approval, including the reported trade between Blackwater and NLEX, which would send JP Erram to the Road Warriors in exchange for recruits Paul Desiderio and Abu Tratter.
