Spotify could arrive in India early 2019

India and China are two of the biggest emerging countries in technology. For years, technology companies have focused solely on markets like the United States and Europe, but India and China have a larger population to target. As more and more people in these countries connect, we will see an influx of tech companies trying to win customers there. Some have tried and failed, while others (like Google) have been very aggressive in the region, making not only their current services more accessible, but also launching new services specifically designed for these markets. The latest tech company to try to enter the Indian market seems to be Spotify, as reports indicate they plan to embark on the next 6 months.

There have been a lot of activities under Spotify's roof lately. The streaming music service has been integrated with Google Maps. It now allows you to download 10,000 tracks per device. They even test a sleep timer for those who like to listen to podcasts after a night's sleep. In addition, users of the Wear OS application have recently received an update providing a new user interface and support for Spotify Connect. It's a lot of work at the software level, but it seems that the company is also looking to expand its user base.

Less than three weeks ago, Spotify announced that it was offering its services in the Middle East and North Africa. However, it seems that their expansion plans do not stop there Variety reports that the popular streaming music service in India is expected to be launched "in the next six months". Again, it is difficult for a technology company to enter the Indian market because of its customers' price sensitivity and previous competition. However, Spotify believes they will gain an advantage by offering an extended free trial period (more than 30 days) for the region.

The company will have some way to go, as some of the biggest local labels still have to be associated with the company. However, negotiations can take a long time and, with about six months for Spotify to put things under control, they could make waves with their launch.
