Standing all night! Let's be weird and follow The Open in the first round of Carnoustie

The Open Championship is the most unique major championship of men's golf. The style of play, the sets, the courses, the night watch in the United States and the history distinguish it from the others. There are so many things that make up The Open's identity and this year's edition at Carnoustie will be particularly distinct.

David Duval, an open champion who saw things to this commander, said that he could not remember something like that during his 22 years of playing in the championship. This is because Scotland is in a drought. Carnoustie, the northernmost place of the Open Rota, has hardly experienced rain in the last six weeks. The fairways are of a crisp brown and run almost as fast as the greens. This looks different but if you can appreciate the history of this championship, and how a link should play, you will know that the look is not just different, but actually it 's not. is beautiful.

Duval is an authority to talk about the uniqueness of conditions. The comparisons will immediately move to 2006 at Royal Liverpool, where Tiger won on a baked course by hitting only one driver all week. This week's strategies on the longest course that the Open has to offer will vary. And that's what makes it so interesting and fun to watch as the best in the world are trying to figure out how to tackle a totally different challenge and play a totally different style.

1:35 AM – We're up! The coffee is poured. Golf Channel is running … and it seems like a volunteer marshal is going to have the honor and lead things to Carnoustie. Wait, it's not Sandy Lyle in an official rain jacket and cap. Mr. Lyle is on the mark this morning and seems to have done serious damage in the tent of merch this week.

1:47 am. . – Andy Sullivan gets on the board with our first birdie of the championship. Sullivan does not take any time and just squeezes a putt into the heart of the cup on the first green.

1:53 AM – We have our first reverse mortgage announcement with a budget-ass that really pounding the house you're looking at in the middle of the golf night.

2:25 AM – The course seems gutted in this morning wave. While the walkways run like concrete, the greens are rather soft and receptive. We have seen players stop the ball on a dime and even turn it 15 to 20 feet. The firm aisles make it play shorter, the wind is low and the greens hold. This sounds like a recipe for a low ride, especially if it stays calm. This is not the Carnoustie of 2007 or 1999.

2:30 AM – Oh my Lyle also has an official open golf shirt too . I die. It's an unholy hour and I'm delirious but it's the very first favorite curiosity of this 147th Open. It's probably his last Open that he's turned 60 and an ex-champion has been eliminated, but he's leaving his mark.

Cooking conditions may give low scores here on the first day, where the wind is blowing at first. Although the fairways are as firm and fast as possible, the greens have obviously been watered and kept much more slowly, so they will remain playable if strong winds start beating Carnoustie. Thursday Departures

A tradition of the Open is that all 156 players come out of tee # 1 for an interminable first two days. The daylight in Scotland at this time of year covers about 17 or 18 hours. You can play deep in the night, after 22 hours. The Open never uses a start in two starts as the other two majors with 156-player field. They simply do not have to do it and it's an Open tradition and links to only start on # 1. Once, and because of an adverse weather, they have used a two part departure in the history of The Open.

A New Tradition of The Open is also the watch from wall to wall. Since Golf Channel and NBC acquired the rights of this major, they put on a monster broadcast of 14.5 hours for the first two rounds. They depart live for the first tee shot at 1:30 am in the eastern United States and then let it run all night and day. It's an incredible, heavy show, which is in its third year.

In addition to TV coverage, there will also be the usual menu of streaming offers if you are stuck at work and want to watch from your desk.
