Only one Lee County Little League team can claim to have won a World Series.

This team is the District 9's senior softball team that won the
World by beating Canada in 2016.

WINK caught up with these ladies before they left for Delaware and the # 39, opening of the week.

The District 9 team is made up of 13 players. 19-year-old players from the Cape Coral and Fort Myers area

"When we practiced I was like that, this team is really strong and by our first game we probably have the potential to go all the way "Said pitcher and shut-out Delicia Bent of the Mariner High School

So they set aside their rivalries in high school to become a team and also to become champions of the state. from Florida

"We all know together that we all have a special aspect for the team. "Softball brings everyone together," said outfielder Janae Hawkins of Fort Myers High School.

"We play with pitching and defense is really our strength, so it's really not to allow them to score," said their manager of the team, Dan Mills. "They are focused on the task."

They open the World Series series against Puerto Rico. The first location is at 20:00. The EST and Senior Softball World Series will air on ESPN.
