The House Majority Leader, Rolando G. Andaya Jr., who chairs the House Committee on the By-law, assured the public Wednesday that the 2019 P3.757 billion national budget was free of pork.
The Leader of the Government in the House reacts to Senator Panfilo M. Lacson Sr.'s assertion that the Lower House leadership would allocate 60 million Pakistan pesos to each member of Congress in the form of pork barrels.
What is wrongly called the pork barrel in the 2019 budget, these are funds initially allocated to all districts of the country's congress, said Andaya.
"The underlying principle here: no district will be left behind. All will receive a piece of the cake for the benefit of their constituents. These are not pork barrel funds declared illegal by the Supreme Court. They [public] have the right to benefit from the fruits of their taxes, regardless of their political affiliation, "he said.
