MANILA – Malacañang tempered on Thursday the promise of President Rodrigo Duterte to cancel the last members of Parojinogs in Ozamiz, saying that all actions of the government will be based on the law and the Constitution.

Duterte announced on Wednesday evening that he would "wipe out of the face of the earth" the Parojinog clan members after the West Misamis District's second representative, Henry Oaminal, told him that family witnesses would have been threatened.

Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo said members of the Parojinog family, if they were involved in the drug trade, "should be prosecuted to the maximum".

"The killings will only happen when they resist the arrests, if they act violently against those who enforce the law.It is very clear, whenever the president says so," said Panelo. at a press conference at the Palace.

Duterte's threat to exterminate the Parojinogs came as a result of his order to bring back the controversial superintendent of police. Jovie Espenido in Ozamiz, stronghold of the family.

Espenido led the series of anti-drug raids in July 2017, which then killed the mayor of Ozamiz town, Reynaldo "Aldong" Parojinog, and 14 other people.

The children of Aldong, Nova Princess and Reynaldo Jr., were also arrested. Both face charges of unlawful possession of firearms and explosives. His younger brother Ricardo, also known as Ardot, was arrested in Taiwan in May 2018 after months of concealment.
