Adamson University head coach Franz Pumaren was fortunate to take the Soaring Falcons to their first participation in the UAAP finals in 26 years, but unfortunately, no one took orders at court when that mattered the most.
On Saturday, the Fighting Maroons, of the University of the Philippines, denied entry to the finals at Soaring Falcons, after a heartbreaking and yet historic defeat, an 87-89 overtime extension.
"I do not think we've been dubbed or upgraded, I think it's the guys from inside that made the difference," Pumaren said at the post-match press conference.
Pumaren, who led Adamson to his third consecutive appearance in the final, said it was the UP senior, especially Paul Desiderio, who took the lead in the final two minutes of overtime.
He pointed out that Fighting Maroons played with more passion and that their veterans took responsibility when they needed it the most.
"Hat to Desiderio, he really does not want to lose. You know, it's all the heart. He took control, di ba? C is like the sign of a very good or d & # 39; A great college player, ready to accept responsibility, ready to take charge, "Pumaren on heroic Desiderio.
At the end of the match, Desiderio embodied UP's "Atin & # 39; to" philosophy in the last minute of the extra period, achieving a triple and a disputed jump to give his team the lead and eventually the ticket to the final .
Although he is proud of how his players have improved and created their names in the ranks of the colleges, Pumaren still hoped that someone from the team would resume the match the same way than Desiderio.
He even advised his outgoing captain Sean Manganti to develop the team's responsibility.
"He's pro-tied, I think he'll be selected, but he has to start by assuming some tasks and getting the team's responsibility," Pumaren said.
Manganti ended his career in the UAAP with 6 points in the match on a shot on 7 and was beaten during most of the match due to problems at the beginning.
For the moment, Pumaren said that he just wanted to take a good break and accept the fact that this season was again not for them.
"Maybe it's not really the right time, God has other plans, imagine him thinking three, three points maka, a kami, a tabla, in advance, he's a classic game, "added Pumaren.
