ONE Championship has become a lot sexier. Chatri Sityodtong, chairman and chief executive of the Singapore-based promotion, announced Thursday morning that he had signed a contract with UFC veteran Yoshihiro Akiyama, better known by his hilarious nickname "Sexyama".

"I am delighted to announce that Korean and Japanese JMMA legend Yoshihiro 'Sexyama' Akiyama (15-6) (also known as Choo Sung-Hoon) has officially signed with the ONE Championship," Sityodtong announced on Saturday. Twitter.

Prior to this announcement, the growing belief was that Yoshihiro Akiyama had retired. Apparently, however, this is not the case.

The Korean-Japanese star fought for the last time in November 2015, when he gave up a decision against Alberto Mina in the octagon of the UFC. In his next most recent fight, which took place until September 2014, he defeated Amir Sadollah by decision. Akiyama lost his previous four fights – although against high-flying opponents in Jake Shields, Vitor Belfort, Michael Bisping and Chris Leben. As Chatri Sityodtong says, he is 15-6 years old in all.

Although nothing is certain yet, it seems likely that Yoshihiro Akiyama is competing in the ONE Championship Welterweight Division, with a limit of 185 pounds.

If he actually participates in this division, he can look forward to battles with Agilan Thani, Daichi Abe, Luis "Sapo" Santos, Tyler McGuire and new champion Zebaztian Kadestam, who assumed the vacant throne shortly long time after the former champion Ben. Askren has migrated to the UFC.

No start date has been set for the UFC veteran, although the start of the ONE in March in Tokyo makes a lot of sense.

How do you think Yoshihiro Akiyama will perform in ONE Championship?
