Eickhoff, 28, made an impressive comeback in the Phillies' spin at the start of the year after long-term injuries, reaching a silver medal of 1.50 in his first five games of the season. Since that time, he has been scored 27 points in 27 1/3 of the heat while offering 16 records (16 in his most recent outing). Injuries limit Eickhoff to only 5 1/3 of the heats in 2018 and a total of 133 1/3 of the heats from 2017 to 18, but he gave 197 Phillies innings to 3.65 ERA balls in 2016. If Eickhoff's struggles continue, he still has minor league options.
Rotational alternatives in the big league include Ranger Suarez and Vince Velasquez, while the Triple-A pitchers Cole Irvin, Enyel From Los Santos and Drew Anderson are all on the list of 40 men too. The Phillies could also explore the idea of using a door opener or even look for another option outside the organization.
It's been a tough year for Phillies starters as Nick Pivetta was incoherent when neither Aaron Nola or Jake Arrieta launched to expectations. Nola and Arrieta, in particular, saw their struggles coincide with those of Eickhoff. The Phillies still have a record of 15-13 last month despite their ineffective rotation, but the Braves have drastically reduced the gap in what is now a tied division playing at a 17-9 pace on the same stretch. Philadelphia is generally expected to be aggressive in the commercial market this winter, and turnover seems to be a more and more logical target area for Managing Director Matt Klentak and his associates.
