MADISON, Wisconsin – With booster injections now approved for many Americans, Dane County public health officials are making it easier for eligible people to receive their next injection with a new vaccination clinic.

Madison and Dane County Public Health on Thursday announced plans to establish a temporary vaccination clinic in the Arena building of the Alliant Energy Center, which will provide the first and second doses of the vaccine to anyone 12 years of age and older, in plus booster shots for those who qualify.

The opening of the clinic is scheduled for Tuesday, October 12. It will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“This clinic will be different from the previous clinic that we had installed on the grounds of the Alliant Energy Center for several reasons. First, it’s in a different part of the facility and second, people will park and walk around, unlike the previous approach behind the wheel, ”said Sarah Hughes, COVID-19 Vaccine Assistant for Public Health at Madison and Dane County.

Booster doses for some Americans – people in long-term care facilities, people 65 years of age and older, and people 18 years and older who have underlying health conditions or who work in related fields. high risk of exposure to COVID-19 – were approved by federal regulators in the last month.

Additional doses have only been approved for those who have already received Pfizer’s vaccine. Booster injections have not been approved for Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccines. If boosters for these vaccines are approved, they will be available on the site.

Health officials said appointments are strongly encouraged, but walk-in visits will be accepted as needed. The booster clinic should be able to accommodate around 220 booster vaccinations per day.
