Shocking photos show what happened when a dozen tractor-trailers slipped out of control on the snow-capped Interstate 80 in Pennsylvania during Wednesday night’s winter storm – killing one and injuring several others.
The stack of 66 vehicles, including 55 trucks and 11 passenger vehicles, over a mile of reach on the west side of the highway, occurred around 3 p.m. Wednesday in Clinton County, State police said on Thursday.
The section remained closed Thursday afternoon with contractors trying to clear vehicles, cops said.
A second passenger died in the incident due to a medical issue, but it was unrelated to the crash, cops said.
The death was one of five lives killed during Winter Storm Gail, the first snowstorm of the season – which dumped more snow on New York City than all of last year combined.
Another fatality was reported just outside Pittsburgh when a man was struck by a plow around 4:45 p.m. while walking with a snowblower, according to the local CBS station.
In New York state, two storm-related deaths have been reported, according to Governor Andrew Cuomo, but he did not provide details.
Kansas Police also reported a fatal crash on Tuesday in which one person was killed and two others injured.
