Shocking photos show a Dutchess County home in flames after a small plane crashed Saturday, killing at least two people – one of the victims having been identified Sunday.
The Cessna 303 carrying three men was heading to the Sky Acres field in LaGrangeville to refuel before heading to Long Island Airport on Saturday afternoon after mysteriously sinking into a Union Vale home. announced the authorities.
Raging flames and thick plumes of black smoke poured from the destroyed home about 16 miles east of Poughkeepsie. The images also show the torn tail of the plane tilted between the ruined roof of the house and a wooden bridge.
Police said three people were inside the house when the plane struck: one person died, another was seriously injured and a third is still missing on Sunday. One of the three passengers on the plane also died.
State police did not publicly identify the people involved in the accident on Sunday, but Notre-Dame de Lourdes local high school in Poughkeepsie said Jerry Bocker, the father of former graduate Will Bocker of 2013, was one of the victims. Will's sister, Hannah, was in critical condition, the school said.
Jerry Bocker, a former Verizon employee, is also the owner of the house in a message posted in a Facebook group for retired members of the Communications Workers of America Section 1120 union.
Catie Corcoran, who claimed to be a family friend, launched a Facebook fundraiser for the Bockers, writing: "My friend Sarah Bocker's house was hit by a plane today, she lost her father and little sister is now a hospital, she also lost her pets and we try to find them. They do not have a home to go to and nothing to wear, etc … any donation would help !! Thank you so much"
On Sunday, the neighbors were looking for missing pets, including four cats and a Golden Retriever puppy, Charlie. Another Golden Retriever named Buoy was found Sunday morning, the Poughkeepsie Journal reported.
A Black Earth named Molly was found but died from her wounds, according to the newspaper.
"All the family wants is for people to come and get their pets," said a family friend, Korrie Petrus.
The final destination of the plane was the Long Island airport of the Republic. We still do not know what caused the crash.
The Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board have stated that they are investigating this accident.
