The football season has jumped with a schedule longer than 2020, so that way things are looking up. Chester, Quincy and Portola have posted a season with 10-week games until November 5. Some Greenville students were able to participate in nearby programs. Returning Quincy head coach Daniel Waltermire is joined on the pitch by GHS coach David Keller as assistant coach for the QHS Trojans. “It’s already a tumultuous season like last year,” said Waltermire. “The first two games were called off due to covid / quarantine and we were very lucky to replace Hamilton with Golden Sierra tomorrow, so it will be great to finally take the field.

Steve Heskett returns to coach the Portola Tigers, who had a fairly good season when they took the field last spring. Fans and athletes alike were grateful for having participated in a quick, impromptu 4-game spring 2021 season after missing the entire fall 2020 football season.

TJ Ragan is back as head coach of the Chester Volcano football team. “We’re happy to have a season,” said Ragan. Isn’t that the truth! Covid always throws a wrench into the mix, and of course the fires continue to have a huge impact on our entire community. Getting together for a football game can be a distraction for those who can handle it.

The high school’s three coaching teams, along with Feather River College coach Nick Goulet and staff, have been building their teams for years. Hopefully soccer games can function like washing your car, maybe it will start to rain early!

Portola, Chester and Quincy High Schools, as well as Feather River College, have all said no restrictions are in place for outdoor sporting events such as football games. Fans are welcome and encouraged to attend the games.
