Now, Niantic has responded to fan complaints, with an official blog post trying to justify reversing the pandemic changes saying, “Research has shown that walking outside is safe and confers several health benefits. Additionally, encouraging outdoor exploration is in line with Niantic’s mission. “
The statement also specifically acknowledged fan concerns about PokéStop and the gym aisle, and while they haven’t announced they are rolling back the changes, they are looking for a compromise.
“We are bringing together an internal cross-functional team to develop proposals designed to preserve our mission of inspiring people to explore the world together, while addressing specific concerns that have been raised regarding interaction distance,” their statement read.
