Police said his coach, Jim Boeheim, had hit and killed a person who was coming out of his car after another accident occurred Wednesday night on I-690 near Thompson Road in Syracuse.

The accident occurred just before 11:30 pm Wednesday on the I-690 heading east just before the Thompson Road exit.

Investigators say that one car lost control and struck a guardrail. They say that people in the car went out and walked on the highway near that vehicle.

Police said Boeheim had noticed the car down and tried to avoid the vehicle in the middle of the road. It was then that police said that Boeheim had hit 51-year-old Jorge Jimenez of Syracuse, who was at the side of the road.

Jimenez was taken to the North State University Hospital where he was declared dead.

According to sources, Boeheim reportedly called 911 and the police reportedly told CNYCentral that he was cooperating fully with the investigators and the other driver.

They tell us that "it seems like a tragedy".

I-690 was arrested at South Midler Ave. for several hours while the crews were investigating the accident.
