COUNTY OF PRESQUE ISLE
Commander Paul Fox was on patrol near Onaway when a domestic violence call was made near his location. CO Fox responded to the scene and helped local MPs secure the scene and the suspect who was arrested for domestic assault.
Captain Jon Sklba contacted a subject driving an ORV on a national highway in Presque Isle. Upon contact, subject admitted to having been arrested for the same offense in the past. The subject also admitted that during his previous meeting with the CO, he was informed that he needed an ORV license, which he still did not have. A ticket has been issued for the violations.
Commander Jon Sklba has located illegal bear bait in Presque Isle County. The bait had been set well before the legal bear baiting season and had used illegal debris at the bait site. Eventually, CO Sklba was able to contact a local bear guide as he actively reset the bait. A ticket has been issued for the offense.
ALPENE COUNTY
Commanders Jon Sklba, Dan Liestenfeltz, Sidney Collins, Jessica Curtis, Kyle Cherry, Matt Theunick, Eric Bottorff, Jon Sheppard and Sgt. Michael Mshar assisted the Alpena Combat Readiness Center and the United States Army in an exercise involving the landing of four A-10 Warthogs and two C-146s on the M 32 national road. The commanders assured the safety of the landing zone. It was the first time in history that this type of training was carried out on a road using fighter jets in the country.
Commander Jon Sheppard received a complaint from RAP dispatchers regarding a bobcat that was harvested and recorded in the 2019 license year. The hunter who caught the bobcat had not been issued a wagering tag. to death of bobcat. Commander Sheppard interviewed the suspect at his home. The suspect showed Commander Sheppard the bobcat mount hanging on his wall as well as photos of the bobcat the day he harvested it. After the interview, Commander Sheppard could find no evidence that a bobcat kill tag had been purchased or placed on the bobcat. CO Sheppard has seized the bobcat mount for evidence and a report is submitted to the Alpena County District Attorney’s office for harvesting a bobcat without a valid kill tag.
