Police chase in Los Angeles: a stolen vehicle suspect shakes hands with spectators in a frantic pursuit

LOS ANGELES – The driver of a stolen utility vehicle was arrested Thursday afternoon after being sued by authorities during an intermittent lawsuit across Los Angeles, police said.

The shirtless suspect at one point stopped the vehicle in a traffic lane on 110 Freeway, while officers stopped behind him with their guns fired.

After a few moments, the pilot of the red Kia Sorento continued.

According to KABC-TV, a few kilometers later, the heavily tattooed man repeated the same maneuver as the pursuit approached the 10 Freeway.

The suspect passed his hand through the driver's side window and made an obscene gesture, then briefly left the 110 before returning and heading south.

While crossing the South LA, the man stopped the vehicle twice and shook hands with seemingly enthusiastic spectators.

As the suspect continued to drive, a Los Angeles police officer threw a pimpled strip in front of the vehicle. The SUV ran on the tape and dragged it rolling in circles.

A LAPD cruiser then crashed against the stolen vehicle and blocked it against an SUV parked along a nearby sidewalk.

Several police cars invaded the Sorento as the driver lifted his hands to surrender.

The authorities tried two PIT maneuvers before the third allowed to end the hunt.

The suspect stepped out of the vehicle and landed on the hood of a LAPD vehicle, then was tackled to the ground and handcuffed.

The paramedic responded to the scene and occupied the occupant of the parked sport utility vehicle that was struck at the end of the chase. The person did not appear to have been seriously injured, but was checked as a precaution.

The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital. His name has not been broadcast.
