Police have opened an investigation into two alleged incidents of child abuse at the home of Tyreek Hill, the Kansas City Chiefs star receiver.

"The club is aware of the investigation involving Tyreek Hill," said Friday a spokesman for the team in a statement to HuffPost. "We are collecting information and have been in contact with the league and the local authorities. We will have no comment for the moment.

According to police reports obtained by KCTV5, police have been summoned twice this month to Hill's home in Overland Park, Kansas, to investigate incidents involving a minor. The first report, dated March 5, dealt with reported cases of child abuse and neglect and listed Hill and his fiancée, Crystal Espinal, as "other people involved".

The second report, dated March 14, concerned the alleged battery of a minor at the same address. Hill does not appear on this report, but Espinal is again listed under "other people involved".

An unidentified source aware of the situation told the Kansas City Star that the alleged battery involved the son of Hill and Espinal, aged 3, and resulted in a broken arm.

The Overland Park Police Service did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Hill, 25, has a history of violence and abuse. In 2015, he pleaded guilty to domestic and battery aggression of Espinal, while pregnant. She told the police that he had hit her face and stomach, sat on her and choked her.

He was sentenced to three years of probation and, as part of his plea agreement, he agreed to take a 52-week violence intervention course. The domestic violence conviction was rescinded and removed from his file last year, after he had fulfilled the conditions of his probation.

Strangulation is a particularly terrifying and dangerous form of violence common in abusive relationships. According to a 2008 study, women who were strangled by their partner are seven times more likely than other female victims of violence to become victims of homicide. Experts believe that men who strangle their partners are among the most dangerous aggressors.

In 2016, during his probation, Hill signed a two-year contract with $ 2,586,220 with the chiefs. His annual base salary as of 2019 is $ 1,965,036.

The leaders would be negotiating with Hill for what, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, could be a new "record" contract.

The Spotrac Market Value Calculator could include a $ 95.5 million five-year offer from the Chiefs. That would overtake the contract signed for Odell Beckham Jr., who became the highest paid wide receiver in the history of the NFL when he signed a $ 90 million over five-year extension with the Giants of New York in August 2018.
