The next Xbox console could include a physical engine and a diskless variant

The patent relates to a processor dedicated to the execution of a physical engine. It explains the disadvantages of computer simulations of physical systems. Usually, the simulation of physical systems involves the simulation of collisions between a pair of objects. It also involves determining whether the objects are actually colliding. This is not a problem when the number of objects is reduced. However, once the number of objects is large, as in open world games, control can consume a lot of resources.

To avoid this massive consumption of resources, developers tend to minimize problems at the technical level. This gives a realistic appearance to the physical systems. Microsoft aims to solve this problem of developers in the next consoles. This will also significantly reduce the workload on gaming resources and could prove to be a game changer for future large-scale games.
