MARQUETTE – The Marquette Police Department has identified the man who died Monday afternoon at Presque Isle Park in Marquette.

The victim has been identified as Drew Barron, 20, from the north of the state of Caledonia.

Police were dispatched to Presque Isle around 1 p.m. Monday to report a person falling off a cliff in the park.

Police, firefighters and paramedics responded to the scene and attempted to rescue Barron, who was in Lake Superior near the shore. Barron did not respond and first responders attempted to save lives. He was transported to UP Health System – Marquette where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Police previously said preliminary information suggested Barron fell while descending the cliff to take pictures.

No foul play is suspected in the incident, police said.

In a press release on the incident, the Marquette Police Department reminded visitors to Presque Isle Park “to stay away from the cliffs and exercise caution in the face of the park’s unprotected dangers.”
