Tree pollen responsible for many spring allergies has now reached "very high" levels for the first time this year in Central Pennsylvania.
This is according to the tracking station at Allergy & Asthma Consultants Inc. in York, which is the closest to Lancaster County.
The follow – up shows a pollen count of 2,050. The count was 402 on April 15th and the first high number for the year was 170 on March 26th.
The upper range for tree pollen is between 90 and 1499, and more than 1500 are classified as very high.

Debra Hunt, a certified pollen counter at Allergy & Asthma Consultants Inc., said it was among the highest in the country that day and the highest she can remember ever seen years in this field.
According to Hunt, tree pollen usually peaks at the end of May, and the number of seasons is particularly high between 2,000 and 4,000, some years between 5,000 and 6,000.
The monitoring also indicates a grass pollen count of 38, which corresponds to the first reading of the year for this measure, which is in the upper range of 20-199.
