He is an old acquaintance of the authorities, to such an extent that it is called the oldest pickpocket of the city of Lisbon. This Tuesday, at the age of 81, he was again arrested by the capital's PSP when he stole a cell phone from a tourist who was traveling on tram 25.

L & # Accumulated experience, with several convictions for stealing crime, has done everything the victim does not have. But the octogenarian ended up being betrayed by the celebrity, which places him in target of the PSP Metropolitan Command teams specialized in this criminal phenomenon. The statement released Wednesday by PSP reveals that the police surprised the suspect "to put the victim's mobile phone in the pocket of the pants that he was wearing."

Although repeated in criminal proceedings, the octogenarian seems to have changed, at least partially, the performance. It is that, in another process, it is forbidden to frequent the Baixa-Chiado metro and trams 15 and 28, where it usually operates. And this time, probably not to violate the measures of coercion, opted for 25.

In five days, between last Friday and Tuesday, the PSP Lisbon has stopped 11 pickpockets (the release refers to 13, but for lapse repeat a situation involving two suspects) between 17 and 81 years old to fly in tourist places or on public transport. All were present at the judicial authorities and released under the duress of the minimum coercion, the duration of the identity and residence, pending the trial. Two are Portuguese and the remaining foreigners.

The first arrest took place on Friday afternoon in Rua da Prata. Police in the Criminal Investigation Division detected two suspects who were pulling a wallet of a backpack that a tourist was carrying on their backs. "The stolen goods, valued at 160 euros, were returned to the victim," the statement said.

The same luck was experienced by a tourist who wandered early Sunday afternoon to Rua Garrett and recovered the same amount. The PSP agents monitored two suspects while they stole the victim's wallet, thus preventing them from escaping

If there had been no rapid intervention from other police and a couple, it would have been appropriate for property valued at more than of 1100 euros that a tourist carried in a backpack. This happened in the middle of the afternoon Tuesday in the parish of Santa Maria Maior, also in Lisbon.

Late in the afternoon, three suspects were captured in the same parish who stole more than 230 euros from a backpack wallet that another tourist had on his back. According to the PSP, each of the women had a specific function: one robbed the backpack, the other concealed the act with an open handkerchief and the third controlled the presence of police in the vicinity

On Monday, in Amadora, had already been detained another woman who, taking advantage of an oversight, had stolen a suitcase with 600 euros and several documents inside.
