The European Union helps Guatemala with 15 million euros

The European Union (EU) announced that it would deliver 15 million euros to support Guatemala after the eruption of the Fogo volcano, which has already left 113 dead and 332 missing .

Due to the needs of rehabilitation and restructuring in this country, the European Union intends to help Guatemala with a fund of 10 million euros and a donation of 5 million euros.

"The modalities for the activation of these funds will be the subject of technical consultations with the Guatemalan authorities. (19459007), the European Union (EU) said in a statement that 400 000 euros would be routed by the Guatemalan Red Cross for the purchase of essential goods.

The EU sent four specialists in volcanic material flows, infrasound monitoring, early warning and risk management to "support the country to deal with the risks of who are in charge of the activity of the Fogo Volcano", in addition to four members of the Intervention Coordination Center of urgency of the Directorate of Humanitarian Aid of the European Commission.

The two teams will remain in Guatemala until July 21, according to the EU.

The ambassador of the European Union in Guatemala, Stefano Gato, said that he hopes that this support will help improve the living conditions of people facing a very difficult situation.
