The investigation into the PJ was triggered by popular denunciations to the authorities regarding the existence of suspect vehicles near the area where the fires broke out. The PC concluded that the suspects' vehicles would have fired between 20 and 30 fires in the county, on days when they were out of the fire, which was confirmed by the corporation's commander, Rodolfo Baptista. at the Lusa agency.

The operational agent never suspected the two firefighters, but, faced with suspicion about them, he decided to suspend them from the function. Both are now before the Alenquer court criminal investigation judge for enforcement action.
