Eleven years after its debut, eight since the last time, the Pearl Jam returned to the Passeig Maritimo de Algés to toast the Portuguese with a good dose of "grunge", the sound that three decades help to spread the world (they are not the only ones, we will already be here). Equal to themselves, but with a very special alignment, they knew how to give the fans what they hoped for: memories of a unique concert.
It was a show that was announced. Judging by the t-shirts on the floor, one could say very early that most of the thousands of festival-goers who passed the doors of NOS Alive came to see Pearl Jam. The flood that was found in front of the stage at the beginning of the concert confirmed the suspicion, as well as the rush to the end (when the MGMT was still missing). In fact, never during the three days of festival there were so many festivals in front of the main stage, so it was confirmed that the band was not just the big name of the day – the tickets were exhausted since December – but also from the edition of 2018.
The starting shot was given by "Low Light", theme of the album "Yield", released in 1998, which does not include served only to attract the most distracted on the main stage. There was little that accompanied the song, with the singer, it was the second song of the night that launched the presents of the present: "Better Man", one of the classics of the band, which opened the appetite for what was coming.

Several interventions followed Eddie Vedder, who, in good Portuguese, greeted the public. Not just with a usual "how are you?" Phrase, used by so many other groups. Always in Portuguese, in a set of sentences, the singer thanked the invitation "for the summer festival", he said that he was very happy to see everyone present and was happy to "return to Lisbon". And that was not the only reference In Portugal, later Vedder insisted on recalling "a song that they played for 22 years in Cascais", "Even Flow", which the group later presented . It should also be noted that during the show there were several gifts addressed to the public, the country and the Portuguese friends (although sometimes the words spoken in Camões were not very visible) and that frontman finished the concert with a scarf with national colors around the neck
The repertoire continued with a mixture of themes from the already long work of the group, a mix of themes already launched after the year 2000, not forgetting classics such as "Girl", "Jeremy", "Black" and "Alive". All welcome, but already expected. However, the group had surprises for the audience of NOS Alive, a reminder of covers which started with "Imagine" by John Lennon, past "Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd. riff of the "Seven Nation Army" of the White Stripes, and ends with "Rockin 'in the Free World" by Neil Diamond. This last theme has already been played alongside Jack White (ex-White Stripes) who took over the scene, the same as he had left just over two hours ago

MGMT-Americans continue tonight in the unfortunate position that is happening at Pearl Jam. Yet even after the departure of thousands of people, they managed to make a memorable show. They did not come at random and arrived in Lisbon with a new album in the luggage (Little Dark Age), released in February.

Returning to Jack White, the guitar icon came to NOS Alive with a new album in the bag (Boarding House Reach), in fact, made a starting point with the song. one of the new singles to open: "Over and Over and More". The theme has a contagious riff – in the style that the artist has already accustomed his audience – who has arrived to open a concert that has brought to Passeio Marítimo de Algés a sort of musician's collection, a stop of the subjects of the albums solo and groups at

– Elvio Carvalho (The White Stripes) White will always be a guitar genius, but the solo album's themes failed to drag the crowd like White Stripes did. The proof was the closing of the concert, as hundreds crowded to catch the last of the night: "Seven Nation Army" classic White Stripes. The same goes for Robbert Plant, who staged the same scene two years ago and who could only wake the crowd by revisiting the themes of his Led Zeppelin. ] Jack White finished the concert with "Seven Nation Army", White Stripes, group that founded pic.twitter.com/WQc7HlVJPZ

C & Is high refer to the grunge presence on the last day of the festival. This is not just a style of Pearl Jam, which has also contributed to its development and globalization: Alice in Chains, who also came on stage shortly after 18:00.
With more than three decades of history, the band that seemed desperately over after the death of singer Layne Staley in 2002, has been on the road for 12 years with William DuVall in the lead (and with whom they recorded three albums). The last, "Rainier Fog", is ready, but will not leave the drawer until next month.
Topics such as "Man in the Box", "Would?" And "Rooster" have shown that the Alice in Wonderland in Channels still know how to show the audience that there are other sides of grunge, in addition to the popularized by Pearl Jam and Nirvana.
Since the last day, it's worth noting the band that started on the NOS: The Last Internationale stage. The Americans touched an enclosure that was still filling, which ended up throwing a bit to lose all the energy that characterizes them. The group is not only strange by the Portuguese lands ( they were here in 2016 and 2017), as two of the members are descendants of Portuguese, as they demonstrate mainly by the words in Portuguese . Some too inappropriate to incorporate this text.
The festival returns in 2019, on July 11th, 12th and 13th, at the same place. Incidentally, Algiers Maritime Tour will be home to NOS Alive for another five years, at least, Saturday announced the organization.
