Support against drought in 40% of the counties of Portugal – Society

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, land used for grazing will not be affected by the payment of agricultural practices beneficial to the environment.

This exception, which allows the use of currently crop-free land to feed animals, covers 123 municipalities (40% of the national total) affected by drought, for the period from February 1 to July 31 of this year,

The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development, published yesterday in the Diário da República, defines the situations covered, taking into account the drought situation that has occurred. produced in February: during this month, there was 3.7% of the territory in times of low drought, 11.4% in moderate drought, 83.1% in severe drought and 1.3% in extreme drought.

Since March, the country has left the drought situation, which is still in the middle of summer, according to the latest climatological bulletin of the Portuguese Institute of Sea and Atmosphere.

The payment of greening is made to producers who have on their property the diversification of crops, the maintenance of permanent grasslands and which have an area of ​​ecological interest on the agricultural area.
