Universal Music Group sent a letter in June to composers Doron Medalie and Stav Beger, claiming copyright infringement.
Ofer Menahem, director of the song "Toy", has already expressed his opinion in statements to the Israeli newspaper. "This is not a trial, there is no court here."
In March, Ben Shalev, a music critic in the Israeli newspaper Haaretz had already detected the resemblance. "The song looks a lot like the White Stripers' Seven Nations Army, so let's hope Jack White will not hear this song before the Eurovision Song Contest," he wrote in his article.
The similarities have indeed been detected. Universal claims similarities between Netta Barzilai's song and the White Stripers not in lyrics and melody, but in rhythm.
The rules of the Eurovision Song Contest are clear: the songs to be submitted must be original. Netta could be disqualified and Israel may not host the biggest music festival next year.
