One person died and five were injured after a car struck a group of six pedestrians near a footbridge in Sochi, one of the Russian cities hosting the 2018 World Cup
The deadly victim is a 63 year old man. The five wounded were transported to the hospital, with two women in critical condition, according to the Russian news agency Interfax.
For now, according to local media, everything indicates that it is an accident. The driver of the vehicle, who survived the crash, fell asleep at the wheel, which resulted in the dismantling of the car which, after having knocked over several people, finally hit another vehicle.
A video of trampling was posted on the Internet. In the images shown by the Russian state channel Russia-24, we see a black car following at high speed on a main road and crossing two lanes of traffic, until colliding with pedestrians and then another car.
The accident occurred in the Dagomys district in Sochi, one of the 11 cities hosting the World Cup.
