Former Colombian President Álvaro Uribe announced Tuesday his resignation from the Senate after the Supreme Court announced that he was going to investigate him for "corruption and procedural fraud."

The Colombian political landscape has been dominated by the former head of state over the past two decades. Uribe was president between 2002 and 2010, formed his own party and continued in the Senate to be one of the country's most popular politicians.
In June, he won that a little-known candidate won the presidency of Colombia, with the election of Ivan Duc by a major bank. Together, they proposed a new judicial configuration that would eliminate the Supreme Court, which was already investigating the case that is now affecting Uribe.
